Man fakes kidnap to dupe U.S-based Facebook lover

A 43-year-old man, Emmanuel Obioma, and two others have been arrested by the Imo state police command for faking a kidnapping deal to collect N1 million from his US-based lover, Ugo Emeka.

The other suspects arrested alongside Obioma, were Iheanacho Amanda Francisa Ugochi, 22, and Agbo Samuel,  42.

Before their arrest, Obioma had lied that he had an accident and demanded money from Ugo, who sent him N821,000 to treat himself. .

A statement issued by the police read: “Emmanuel Obioma, initiated a relationship with one Ugo Emeka ‘f’, who lives in the U.S.

He claimed he lives in US as well and installed software which ensured that a foreign number appears on the lady’s phone each time he called. .

Having succeeded in making her believe he lives in the US, he then informed her that he was travelling to Nigeria, upon his fake arrival to Nigeria, he claimed he had an accident which claimed the lives of two people.

As such he demanded financial assistance for his treatment and got N821,000 from Ugo. Furthermore, on the 17/10/19, he raised a false alarm of being kidnapped while returning to Owerri from Kogi State.

He then demanded N1million which he said was the amount due for ransom. He was however arrested shortly after.”
