Victim of domestic violence

Published

on

Most of my friends and family know about the the horrific act of violence that my daughter endured last summer. Her name is Jodi B Massey and in June of 2018 she married a man named Chris Moseley. She had met him at work and had everyone who knew him and worked with him vouch for the fact that he was a good man. When she met him he told her that he had prayed first about meeting her. He went to church every Sunday morning and evening and Wednesday night. They dated for a year and she thought that her dream had come true to be loved by and married to a hard-working Godly man.
However, right after they married I had a feeling, mother’s instinct, that something wasn’t just right. She was being quiet, not coming by or calling, not her usual happy talkative self. She said they were busy, working, settling in. But to my horror on a Thursday evening 5 weeks later I received a call, actually several missed calls asking had I heard from Jodi. That night was the culmination of every mother’s worst nightmare. The person that we all thought was this wonderful man turned out to be the most narcissistic, lying, violent, monster we’ve ever known. He had hit her on the honeymoon, started drinking immediately after the marriage and then came the drugs. He caused her to lose her job she had had for years and he wasn’t working much either. That day the nightmare occurred it was her first day that she had sat with an elderly lady and worked all day. When she arrived home loud music was playing and he attacked her when she came home. He had been drinking and doing illegal drugs all day and he attacked her when she came in. He accused her of being a demon. He beat her, kicked her, strangled her and smothered her for hours. He even gave her mouth to mouth to revive her when he thought she was dead and after reviving her beat her again. There was blood everywhere. Living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom. She even prayed to God after several hours to please just let her die because she didn’t think she could stand anymore. He actually got her handgun and decided he was going to shoot her and then shoot his self. But she decided to sweet talk him and asked him to please put the gun down and that they would go away and she wouldn’t tell anyone what he had done. He thought about it and laid the gun down but as soon as he did she picked it up and pointed it at him. She held the gun on him and backed out the door. He asked her to come back but she told him if he took another step she would shoot. He started to take a step and she shot over his head. I am convinced if she didn’t have that gun in her hands that day she would be dead. After going to two different neighbors’ houses covered in blood and getting no help because they were afraid she drove to her preacher’s house and he took her to the emergency room and the police were notified. We spent the next several days at the trauma unit at UAB in Birmingham. I can’t tell you what it was like to see my daughter beaten from head to toe, choked, strangled, bruised, blood dried in her hair for days because she had a concussion and head trauma, screaming and crying because she couldn’t urinate on her own without a sonogram and being cathed and finally every time she drifted off to sleep waking up screaming with nightmares.
It has been a long year and a long journey for Jodi. In that year she has gotten a new job, gotten a divorce from the monster and tried to move on and rebuild her life. She is truly one of the strongest people I know. She still struggles but she is alive, working, trying to remain positive and I can talk to her and hug her every day if I want to. I told her God has a purpose for her life. He didn’t take her when she begged him to. He wanted Jodi to live, tell others and be an example.
Today she called with the best news she had received in a long time!!! For the past year her abuser has been sitting in jail on No Bond , not just because of what he did to Jodi but because he had previously in two other counties beaten two other women, thus breaking his probation. We found out he had beaten Jodi so badly that his hand was broken and had to have surgery on it. I’m sure tax payers paid for that. He had been indicted by the grand jury and was awaiting trial next Monday, August 12th. He, Chris Moseley, the man who beats upon women, the coward, decided a couple of weeks ago to plead guilty instead of facing trial. He was officially sentenced today to 10 years in prison for domestic violence, strangulation and suffocation. Ten years with violent offenders in prison!!!
